Challenges

In this day and age, one of the most pressing challenges that we face is the avoidance of waste, the conservation of resources, and the efficient utilization of recyclable materials. It is no secret that the importance of environmental consciousness and sustainability is increasing on a daily basis.

When it comes to types of waste that can be turned into energy, municipal waste – the kind generated by residents and consumers and commonly known in the industry as MSW – is a prime candidate. This waste is shredded, sometimes multiple times depending on the stage of the process, and subsequently subjected to various steps that may include screening out unwanted items or material, separating out metals, sorting the waste into different types, drying it, and then feeding it into equipment that generates fuel or gas. The end product from this process is often referred to as RNG ( Renewable Natural Gas).

But that’s not all – other types of waste can also be converted into usable products. Commercially-sourced and industrial waste, green waste and wood waste, food waste, and even some plastics can be transformed into pellets that are then used for energy. While we may be oversimplifying the by-products that result from the conversion process, the bottom line is that waste is ultimately repurposed into a valuable resource instead of being consigned to a landfill.

This repurposed waste product is often utilized to fuel cement kilns, to produce electricity and thermal energy, and as a feedstock for pyrolysis plants. In addition to the environmental benefits, there are numerous other advantages to shredding waste, including the ease of sorting and the removal of contaminants for a cleaner material that can be converted into fuel, the diversion of waste from landfills, and the replacement of fossil fuels such as coal.

In conclusion, waste may have traditionally been seen as an unsightly and unwanted nuisance, but with innovative and forward-thinking solutions such as those provided by Vanward, we can transform waste into a valuable resource that benefits both the environment and society at large.
